Dragons of Tirenia: Staglia and the Bronze Dragons
One reason why the Auromian Empire was able to expand so effectively was because of the bronze dragons. They agreed with what the gold dragons were doing, and swore allegiance to the Golden Emperor. The bronze dragons became the leaders of the armies of Auromia, driving its expansion throughout Tellaia. When the Empire began to fall, the bronze dragons were responsible for delaying its collapse for as long as possible, holding off waves of orcs, goblins, and evil dragons. They failed, but without their efforts, the world would have been overrun and La Salvatrice would not have had the chance to discover the word of the Almighty One and save the world.
When the bronze dragons were driven back into Tirenia, they fought ferociously to defend Staglia. This maritime city had been an important headquarters for the military. Consequently, it never fell to the attackers. During the following years, the bronze dragons remained its rulers, while petty kings rose and fell throughout the rest of the world. Staglia was the first city in Tirenia to develop a merchant fleet, and became fantastically wealthy.
When the dragon overlords revealed themselves through the rest of the world, the bronze dragons decided it was time to act. They were not as wise as the gold dragons, perhaps, but they believed that a benevolent tyranny was in humanity's best interests. And were not they the best heir to the power and glory of the Auromian Empire? The bronze dragons prepared their armies once more and began expanding throughout northern Tirenia, ready to conquer the world once more for its own good. The bronze dragons are now the only state to maintain their own standing army rather than rely upon mercenaries, and their armies are poised to invade their neighbours. The Bronze Emperor will rule the world, and there will be peace... eventually.
Many of the other city-states have made alliances against the bronze dragons - especially the blue dragons of Fiumenze, the silver dragons of Mezilano, and the people of the White Mountains. The red dragons of Vanzenia are also the major rivals of the bronze dragons at sea, although so far they have declined to join the war effort. The chief enemy of Staglia, however, is the High Ordinarch (and his green dragon backers), who helps to fund the alliance against the Bronze Emperor. Both the bronze dragons and the High Ordinarch claim to be the rightful ruler of the world, a position which they both feel they have inherited as the successors of the gold dragon emperors of old. The High Ordinarchs claim that their position as the representative of the Divine One on Tellaia makes them pre-eminent above worldly rulers; the bronze dragons claim that the High Ordinarchs has become corrupt and lost their moral high ground. This has led to the bronze dragons appointing their own ordinarchs and other clergy in their lands. The high ordinarchs say that the church was responsible for civic administration during the aftermath of the Empire's fall; the bronze dragons say that they themselves have never experienced this upheaval. Both sides have supporters throughout the north, due to their wealth and influence.
