The Story So Far (Updated)

 Dragon Princes now has quite a complicated storyline! With every game influenced by those that came before it, and influencing those that are yet to come, there's a lot going on. You don't need to know the story across the multiple games to appreciate what's going on in your game, but if you're interested, this is a quick summary of the entire thing so far. As more games get played, I'll update this post!


1015, Summer
  • The mercenaries of the Company of the Wolf stop the bronze dragon Generale Corragio from conquering the Salassi Valley in north-western Tirenia. (The Company of the Wolf)
1015, Autumn
  • The Company of the Wolf discover the ancient system of monoliths designed by the last gold dragon emperor to channel magic and destroy it before it could fall into the hands of the red dragon Rubina. Rubina and the company are killed in the explosion. The fall of the monolith network sends a surge of magic throughout Tirenia. (The Company of the Wolf)
  • Rubina's skull is claimed by the preacher Fra Salvatore, who started touring it around Tirenia as evidence that dragons can be defeated. He urges people to rise up and fight against the dragons. (The Company of the Wolf)
1016, Winter
  • When Rubina's father, Morignus the red dragon ruler of Selenizia, learns about the death of his daughter, he goesinto a destructive, paranoid rage and destroys much of the city. This led to a revolution, where Morignus was overthrown by his daughter, Gianetta. (Carnevale)
  • During the revolution, a rare conjunction of three moons, combined with the destruction of the monoliths, causes a huge surge in magical energy. A demon attempts to use this magic to destroy Vanzenia but is stopped by the heirs of the de Benicio family. (Carnevale)
  • Aurelian, the undead gold dragon buried under Mount Asvestivio, manages to free himself. (The Ruins of Auromia)
1016, Spring
  • Gianetta starts expanding Vanzenia's influence inland, quickly annexing Eridano. (Carnevale.)
  • In Auromia, the fall of the monolith and the triune conjunction freed some of the ancient fairies who used to pretend to be gods. They began fighting amongst one another. Aurelian hires agents to steal their relics of power so he can stabilize his undead form. (The Ruins of Auromia.)
  • In Fiumenze, the artist Michele di Lodovico uses the magical surge to create a living man out of marble. His rival, Bartolomeo, discovered this and made his own living statue. Both Michele and Bartolomeo were killed by the statues, who escaped and started making more living statues. (Death of an Artist)
  • Red dragon agents try to steal the reliquary of Fiumenze, but are thwarted. (Double Cross)
1016, Autumn
  • The red dragon armies conquer Verrazza, bringing an end to the della Squala princes. (The Fall of the House of Della Squama)
  • In Fiumenze, a blue dragon egg hatches and is raised by a street thief, who teaches it to become a good person. (Street Rat)
  • In Fiumenze, mercenaries help foil an assassination attempt on Fra Salvatore at the house of Conte Galeazzo, and stop a rising of the living dead. (Fiumenze Nights)
  • Representatives of the Tirenian League meet in Fiumenze to support Medilano. However, they are unwilling to unite. This leads to the effective dissolution of the League.
  • Rival blue dragons attempt to assassinate Zaffiro il Magnifico, who narrowly escapes. The conspirators escape to Ascia, leading to increased tensions.
1017, Winter
  • The giant king Ahiman stirs from his sleep but is defeated by a coalition of idealistic young dragons. (The Giant's Tomb)
1017, Spring
  • The fairy gods in Auromia are banished, and Aurelian's physical body is destroyed. Sorrel becomes the new genius loci of the city and makes it a haven for lesser fairies, leading to an influx of centaurs, satyrs, pixies, and others of their kind. She renames it Canzonia, the City of Song. (The Ruins of Auromia)
1017, Summer
  • Unhallowed - corpses possessed by demons - attack Medilano. They are defeated by an informal coalition of bronze and silver dragons. The bronze dragons lay siege to the city (The Siege of Medilano)
1017, Autumn
  • The siege of Medilano drags on. The bronze and silver dragons are able to put aside their differences to battle red dragons (who were responsible for the Unhallowed army) and repel them. The silver dragons surrender their city to the bronze dragons of Staglia, leaving them the undisputed masters of south-western Tirenia. (The Siege of Medilano)
1018, Winter

1018, Spring
  • A battle between elementals and dragons leaves the black dragon Nero of Kymaiopoli dead and the fire elemental Asvestivio bound once again. (Apprentices of Tirenia)
  • The war between Staglia and Selenizia begins.
1018, Autumn
  • The war between Staglia and Selenizia drags into a stalemate as the armies settle down for winter.

1019, Spring
  • The Gold Dragon Emperor is reborn (The Pirates of Panormo)
1019, Autumn
  • The demon DISCORDIA attacks Canzonia, but Sorrel Acetosa summons her former companions and they defeat her, redeeming her to become the fairy Serenità. Sorrel Acetosa renounces her role as Queen of Canzonia and leaves with her former companions.

Characters in Tirenia have ideals and flaws, just like in other worlds. Living up to their ideals, or giving in to their flaws, can be a source of Inspiration for them. In a Dragon Princes game, instead of using the standard lists of options, consider using the religious virtues or sins instead. This helps to tie your character more firmly into the setting. The seven virtues are: Charity (Caritas): The Church states that helping those in need is virtuous. Giving of oneself - whether time, money, or anything else - to aid others is its own reward, and should not be done with the thought of reward or recognition. This can also mean donating to the Church, which is capable of helping people on a larger scale. Chastity (Castitas): The moderation of sexual impulses. Tirenians generally do not believe in celibacy. They are also quite accepting of extramarital relationships, which are quite common for the upper classes. The Pirates of Panormo, Session One: Rinascimento

The bronze dragons of Staglia were planning something. Their war against Selenizia had ground into a bloody stalemate. After years of contant warfare, their resources were stretched to the point of exhaustion. And so their troops received the order to hold their positions, while the dragon generals were all recalled to Staglia for an emergency meeting. Meanwhile, surprise attacks were launched against the marble quarries of Camarma and the surreal ruins of Larisa, only to withdraw again. The quicksilver dragons of Trion, the alchemists and inventors of Staglia's war machine.  Something big was coming. And Captain Uberto meant to find out what it was. The crew of the Brazen Nudibranch were dedicated to fighting against the draconic imperialists. The Pirates of Panormo, Session Two: The Villa Salamandre

 The crew of the Brazen Nudibranch fled the city of Staglia as quickly as they could. They decided to head inland to Trion, the home of the quicksilver dragons. They hoped that they could learn more about the ritual that had brought the marble and gold dragon to life. It was slow going, however, because very quickly they found themselves pursued by soldiers hunting for them. People said that spies from Staglia, with the help of a traitor (Scelto), had infiltrated the city and attacked a gathering of dragons with black magic. The group posed as itinerant monks to avoid being discovered. Soon they reached the shining Fulgente River, in whose silvery waters an angel was said to have once died. Evangelia grew nostagic as they beheld the glimmering water, for her home city, Medilano, was located downstream on the same river, and the Fulgente was sacred to the silver dragons.
